Researchers use light to reprogram a photonic device
A laser can rotate liquid crystal molecules around silicon nanostructures, temporarily reprogramming a metasurface's optical response without electrodes. The international team showed the light shifts the device's resonance and controls third-harmonic generation, converting infrared light into visible green-yellow light.
