Liquid metal dealloying creates nanoporous silicon carbide at just 800°C
Researchers at Tohoku University have formed crystalline β-SiC at just 800°C using liquid metal dealloying, a technique previously limited to metals and intermetallics. Immersing a layered Mn5SiC precursor in molten bismuth selectively dissolves manganese, leaving a silicon-carbon framework that reorganizes into nanoporous β-SiC with interconnected nanoscale plates. First-principles calculations confirm the rearrangement is energetically favorable.

Using machine learning and computation to unveil mechanisms for CO2-to-fuel conversion
A data-driven framework from Indian Institute of Science researchers mapped nearly 10,000 elementary reactions in CO2 hydrogenation over copper, using quantum-mechanical simulations to train machine learning models that predict activation energy barriers and automated tools to enumerate reactions among 105 surface species.
